It is the fall of 1858. The chill of autumn is at last winning over the stifling heat and the unbearable stench of summer: London's denizens take a deep breath at last in the dying aftermath of the Great Stink.

This is not the modern metropolis. This is the industrial center of an Empire, swathed in thick yellow coalsmoke fog, installing modern flush plumbing that overflows sixteenth-century brick cesspits to flow into the river, and building gleaming new roads through the worst of its slums. This is the London of Spring-heel Jack. As the tutelary deities of river and field flee choking pollution, this London, in a world where myth looks back through the mirror, has lost its protectors.

Everything is for sale somewhere in London. Every sort of creature can find its niche here -- and many of them can find their prey.

Disaster mini plot

Hey everyone, Nammah here!

Just doing a post here for a quick mini plot involving Germaryah, the new teen werewolf! So this can be possibly a two parter plot that could go as long as a week, maybe more, maybe less!

Content warning for addiction, drug talk for part one:

So Germaryah, while he has been on some withdrawal medication, does not like it at all. He wants his drugs, and he's going to go on the hunt for it. This means that he will go on the hunt for it whenever he can in the infirmary, the vet, and any other place that he could find it around the ship. He wants to find pain killers in particular, and this means he will be searching for the keys, trying to grab whatever he can, all that sort of fun stuff. He is a very strong lad, but he has no weapons and is on the upper side of human strength, but no real training- he's used to punching and having people go down.

He's not going to try to actually murder someone, but when the stress becomes too much, it will lead to part two!

Part two: wolf time

So with enough pain and stress, this will mean a giant black yearling wolf (an Irish wolf for those who would know) will be running around the ship! Depending on the mood, he may or may not attack and cause harm this way. Which is...well, it can be dangerous. He can cause harm, and unless he's really, really on a bad crashout, he will not intentionally go to murder anyone.

But hey, that is an option if desired! Traumatize the boy. But also if you want to put up a network post of "is that a wolf running around" or try to calm him down, all good!

So, questions, comments, puppy? I'll hopefully have the log up by the end of the week!

How's My Driving?

Welcome to the March 2026 "How's My Driving", or HMD. Participating in HMD is mandatory, so get out there. You're only exempt if your character has been here less than two weeks. You're always welcome to post, though.

For those who might be new to this, you need to comment here with your character and, if you like, say a bit about what they're up to. You can also offer any concerns, or particular areas you'd like addressed, as well. Be sure to take the time to comment on the other threads, offering helpful crit, relevant praise or questions you might have.

Remember, this is a post for constructive criticism. If you're confused about what this may mean, please refer to this post. To keep everything going smoothly, we do have a few rules to follow:

1. Keep in mind that this game is for fun, and criticism should be about continuing to write together.
2. Give examples and ask questions so you can consider each other's choices and confusion about those choices. Don't disregard what's said if you're receiving crit, and if you're giving crit give them something constructive that they can look on and consider.
3. This is not the place to unload personal grievances. If you're incapable of playing with someone because of interpersonal conflict, bring it to the mods if it relates to the game and work around it / keep it from interfering with other players if it doesn't. The HMD isn't an appropriate place for personal attacks.

yo!! This is Kates! I was in the game a while ago playing characters like Dorian Gray & Alexander Hilbert, but then I took a break for a year, and now I'm back! And I'm bringing yet another mad scientist because this is my type now.

This is Dr. Casper Darling from the video game Control. He's the head of the Research Department at the Federal Bureau of Control, a government agency that examines all sorts of weird paranatural shit. He's a fun guy! He makes dorky little presentations that you can find all throughout the game! He's also ride or die for the Bureau and was aokay with some of the more morally dubious decisions, like kidnapping a kid and trying to groom him to be the perfect head of the Bureau, before throwing said kid into super jail when he cracked under the pressure. Whoopsie!! That's why Darling's an inmate!!

IC project data collection post: evacuation prep? resurrections? lifeboats?

Hi guys!

So, this is my character's first event where the Barge and Admiral is being threatened with destruction.

He's going to be putting out IC feelers, but it's a double holiday weekend and people are busy and have jobs, so I'm going to collect this stuff OOC!

Evacuation plans
A. Would your character know about Lyfeboats if someone asked in public?
B. Does your character own or have access to a small interdimensional ship, a pocket dimension, a magical portal power, or something else that can be used to evacuate the ship? Would they be willing to volunteer to have it on standby? How many people could they take? Are they capable of taking inmates along, or just wardens?

Admiral down contingencies
1. Can your [not currently power-restricted] character raise the dead in canon? If so, would they be willing to help with efforts to make sure that everyone is resurrected in the event of a total failure of the Death Toll system?
2. Would your [inmate or otherwise dead] character immediately say no to an offer to set them up to be resurrected by another player character in the event of an emergency?
3. Does your character NEED an extra item with them for continued survival? for example, a medication, a breathing machine, the amulet that houses their immortal soul, etc? Would they be able to take care of making sure it's brought along, or do they need assistance?
4. Does your character have a specific person onboard they'd trust to make medical or resurrection decisions on their behalf if they're incapacitated?

Steven CR stuff
I. Would you like to handwave or thread out this information being collected?
II. Is your character like, realistically likely to reveal any of this if called up on their communicator at 5 in the morning by someone that's having a weeklong anxiety attack? if not, is there another way steven can find out about it?
III. Would any existing CR like to be someone he calls for general advice on what to do, because of the fact that in his mind none of these bullet points look organized or clean and is more of a jumble of shouting and fear?

He said - while we were talking, while I was trying to talk him out of it, already did a lot of that - he said How do you kill a monster you can't kill?"

And I've thought about that, 'cos I think he made the question to justify the answer - his answer is you try until either you can't move or it dies by the way - but it isn't a bad question.

I said well, you go around the problem, don't you? more or less. If the monster's a problem because it's harming people, and you can't stop the monster, you stop the harm? You repair as much as you can that it's already done, and you prevent as much future harm as you can. And then he said that was horseshit but I don't think it's horseshit, actually, or I wouldn't have said it.

Oh, also, he's trying kill himself, dunno if that much is obvious to everybody else? I think it's a suicide-by-cop sort of thing and I do, personally, refuse to be the cop.

He thinks he's a monster that deserves to die and that's all the Barge's fault, and that everybody else is going to righteously strike him down. And when that doesn't work, he thinks he's the last hero that understands that the Admiral's evil, and that everybody else is corrupt or a necessary sacrifice that already hates him and is constantly plotting against him. And when neither of those two work, he's entirely helpless, he's got no choice in any of it due to duty and legacy and good and evil and so forth, all caught up in the tragedy of it.

Bit boxed in, aren't we? How d'you get him into a scenario where he's got agency, where he's not being stricken down but also isn't being particularly heroic, where he's not even killing anybody, and where people hating or not hating him isn't necessarily relevant?

Dunno, maybe like this?

Mind you, it's reasonable to be teed off at him, only it's not useful to really act on that, if you're me, and you've got absolutely nothing in the way of magical powers. It doesn't actually challenge any of the assumptions he's made or get him to stop making them and therefore stop making bombs. He's just going to keep thinking he's right and trying to blow the ship up until someone can think of something he hasn't thought of yet or he accidentally falls of the ship the way loads of people do all the time, whether they're good or evil or neither.

Can't kill the monster, mostly 'cause he's not a monster, he's just an inmate. Which is who we're here to help.

Anyway, dunno what the rest of you are organizing. Can't see the warden post. Don't even know there is one. Funny, right?

Summary: We've been researching some radical magic solutions to sever Qetzi'ah from the unknowable evil she has been tied to since her birth. Anyone is welcome. Handwaving is fine.

The meteor shower on May 6th approaches in about a month. Chosen auspiciously for extra oomph to your magic ritual.

The expected 'event' log for participants is some magic metaphor where you gotta get through an illusory House while it tries to tempt you into accepting its sweet sweet evil instead. I'd suggest brainstorming what might actually be tempting.

So About Ending The Ship...Part 2!

Thanks everyone for participating in the poll I put up! It gave me a good head-count for how much people are keeping an eye on this troublemaker and how much nonsense to plot out in order to give everyone who wants it some things to discover.

There are two chunks of things he's doing: I wanted to give the 'detailed surveillance' people and the geniuses/detective/psychics and werewolves, etc types the more subtle shit, and leave some more things for people who aren't super involved but still want to find stuff a chance to go "hey wait a second this isn't right" that he's trying to do to throw off the subtler clues.

So! In no particular order, feel free to pick and choose what you may want to find around the ship! This isn't meant to happen all at once (he is one dude, after all) and time is flexible, so I'm happy to go along with whatever consequences come from this. Also I'm totally fine with people having started to realize things before this post as well, I know timing is a bit rough and all.

Things Trevor is doing (Subtle)
-Coming out of his cabin with charcoal under his nails
-Coming out of his cabin smelling like saltpeter
-Figuring out how to evacuate animals in a hurry by hanging around the kennel more often
-Switching from Kitchen to Inmate Bathrooms' jobs to figure out the pipe systems and get away from his friends
-Collecting scrap metal and testing the melting temperatures
-Carving weird alchemic symbols out of 'boredom' on the deck railing and in the chapel

Things Trevor is doing (Obvious)
-Digging holes in the Greenhouse large enough to stow a metal pot or two. These are empty for now
-Drinking, or at least pretending to, and carrying 1-2 bottles of liquor back from the lounge or Speakeasy to his cabin
-Sticking homemade explosives into places where there are plants with pots (the chapel, the counseling office, the library) and making it look like little packets of fertilizer
-Soaking a few floorboards in vodka and making it look 'accidental'
-Taking cigarette lighters from the commissary and leaving them in common rooms attached to strings, as if practicing rigging a trigger system.
-Boldly stating his intention to destroy the ship.

To play this character out, I need to be able to play the premise, and I think more than a year with no full assignment pretty much means that is never going to happen. In the end, I wasn't helping that because I was only making activity, and you can't get CR if you are not building it. The motivation to do that is trapped in a circle of things not happening, so I think it is better to let the character go and re-app when I am feeling motivated again.

Player Plot: Store Bought is Fine

John Doe's been on the Barge for a good long time, but some recent changes and decisions have coincided with the stars being just right for Something Big to happen because of it. This plot is that thing. And it's a doozy.

Something that will make people question their reality. Question their sanity. Question where they are or if something strange and otherworldly has happened. Something that will warp the very understanding of many Bargizen's reality as they know it!

...nice things are going to happen. For a whole week.

More specifically, hope will be that much more present, accessible, and easy to reach for anyone and everyone who happens to leave their cabin at any point during this event. Starting the dawn of March 20th and ending at dawn on March 27th, every day is going to be a little easier, a little brighter, and a little more hopeful as the stars dictate, powered by a certain someone that probably made you a snack at some point. Because if there's one thing that John wants for people, believes they need more than anything, it's that. And he wants it for everyone on board. Not that he'll know he's the source of this! Nope. Zero clue. Totally blind to his part in it. ~~No wonder he needed Arthur's eyes.~~

Every day of that week, the energy will have a slightly different 'flavor' of hopeful, helpful energy to play with as follows:

Friday: Stuck on something creative? Not anymore! Artistic endeavors are working out fabulously, positive growth and changes in relationships flow that much smoother (whether it's just getting closer or turning romantic or whatever makes all involved happiest), and the first steps on any new project will happen that much easier. The general vibe has things going your way when it comes to creativity and relationships, and remembering/feeling closer to the people who love you and whom you love is just that much easier.
Saturday: Troubled by a problem that seems to have no solution? You're going to find one! Having trouble letting go of something? That choice is exponentially easier today, whether it's giving up a bad habit, giving up an item or a secret, or otherwise letting go of what no longer serves you. Decisions for your betterment are that much easier today and small nice boons will happen when you do!
Sunday: This is when it's going to be very clear something is actually Up: visions of your life after your deal (wardens) or possible positive/good/happy lives after your graduation (inmates) will start appearing in reflective surfaces, daydreams, while you're watching or listening to something else, etc. To be clear: these are not 'au' lives. This is possible futures, happening to you as you are now. If that's too much for where your character is, they'll see positive moments where they contribute to someone's happiness, make things better for someone you care about, or otherwise show ways you can be a positive influence in your own life and other's.
Monday: Continued visions, this time in people's dreams and/or daydreams, where you'll see positive experiences in the near future; nothing complicated or extensive, but these will be things that could totally and reasonably happen to you that you would enjoy. Maybe the dining hall happens to serve your favorite meal. Or the ship stops at a port you really love. Or you have a nice encounter in the Enclosure. Whatever it is: it's just a nice dream. No nightmares that night.
Tuesday: Thankfully, after those two comes the day when your inner demon is going to take a hike. Any struggle you've been having, any burden you're carrying... it's not as heavy. And perhaps you even start seeing solutions to it or ways to handle it that don't feel impossible or outside of the realm of what you can accomplish. Perhaps you've been missing that one key component: today's the day to find it. The expectations, the 'shoulds' and 'have tos' of others will feel a lot less heavy and seeing and feeling yourself, your wants and needs, is that much easier.
Wednesday: Conversations are just going to go SUPER well today and you know it; if your impulses would usually have you say the Dumb Thing that would piss them off, that just... doesn't happen today. Stuck and unable to get something out? Not today! Or, on the flip side, people have a little more understanding today. People hear the best and most sincere version of what you said, misunderstandings that could have happened somehow don't. And if they do? It's not the end of the world. This too shall pass. You'll get through it. It's okay.
Thursday: If you've been trying to find a purpose or a reason, something happens today to help you with that search. Good luck is just in every corner of today and sometimes that means that just the right person seeks you out, or sometimes you find that you're the good luck for someone else. Easiest of all, you might remember a moment where you are your best self or where you see a situation where you can do better and it feels that much more doable. Self-actualizing is just that much easier today.
Friday Early Morning as morning would fade into view, the event ends, leaving you refreshed and feeling lighter, and more generally hopeful than before you started in whatever way suits you

Q. Is this a toxic positivity thing?
A. Nope. There's no happy smiley people, no intense feelings of elation or glee. No one's 'drunk' on this or going to do stupid shit they'll regret later (well, they might regret it later but it won't be stupid, they just might not have been ready to do that emotionally while not effected by the event). This is just positive energy and hope suffusing the ship and how that plays out for your character is up to you. It's to lighten the load a little. It's about helping people to find meaning and purpose and an existence that genuinely serves them. That kind of good.

Q. Can my character figure out John's the source?
A. Probably not! And John will be entirely baffled by the idea that he's doing anything and will suspect nothing. If you feel like your character would pick up on something and you want to play with this, talk to me! Otherwise, I'm gonna say 'nope'.

Q. Do I have to follow the days?
A. Nope. Those are just the energies that are most prevalent that day. If you want to do something more generalized on themes of hope, purpose, meaning, and self-actualization? Go for it! If you need to reorder them to make something work? Go for it. Hope is what it needs to be. It looks different and works different for different people. Make the touch as light or as heavy as would benefit your character. Vibe however works best for you.

Q. Can 'nice things' include murder?
A. Nope! If anything, the energies of this week will do everything it can to prevent murder, from keeping tempers cool and mouths free of feet all the way up to knife swipes just missing and whatever the opposite of Final Destination is to keep people from killing one another. Maybe you don't go down your usual hallway when you usually would per your schedule, throwing off your would-be killer... or maybe the gun they borrowed jams at the wrong moment. Death is going to be that much harder this week, if anything.

Q. Can I sit this one out?
A. Of course. It's a player plot. If you really don't vibe with this (or if your character would utterly resist this completely), just consider that it's not working on them. John himself doesn't believe in helping people who don't want it, so neither will his energy.

Q. Are they just going to lose any hope/positive stuff they gained during the event once its over?
A. Think of it like a breach: you keep what resonates and what you choose to hold onto. Revelations they had, achievements they managed, accords they reached, feelings they got to feel and memories they made? They're still there. And they can choose to hold onto them, lean into them, give them a groove for water to flow through... or not. Maybe the training wheels helped you learn how to ride a bike and maybe you'll still fall over a few times without them. Totally up to you.

Event Plotting Post: Retrospect

Starting on Friday, March 13th, affected characters will find themselves regressed to an earlier point on their personal timeline. In practice, this can function as a de-aging flood (what were they like when they were younger?), or a canonpoint swap flood (what would your character have been like if you'd picked an earlier pull point for them?). Or, hey, both! This will be a flood with rolling effects: anyone who would like to have their character remain fully affected or unaffected for the duration is welcome to do so, but characters may also cycle through multiple different life stages, or go back and forth between being affected and unaffected so that CR can interact with each other in a variety of combinations. Time to take a stroll through days gone by....

Additionally, this time around, we're allowing for AU tweaks! Players may, if they wish, bring in younger versions of previous breach AUs, younger versions that reflect effects from past AU/AU-adjacent floods, or younger versions that otherwise don't quite make sense canonically (ex. bog-standard childhood versions of clones/gods/other characters that were never actually kids). Taking the AU option isn't mandatory, but it's allowable for those who want it!

FAQ

Will my character recognize the Barge and know why they're here?
Nope - as far as they'll be concerned, they'll have just appeared on this weird spaceship straight from home with no preamble. That said, if you don't particularly relish the idea of playing out a week of confusion and/or panic, they may maintain a vague, imprecise sense of what is going on, as well as an awareness that they'll be back home very, very soon.

I don't know anything about my character's childhood! Does that mean regressing them past what's shown in canon isn't an option for me?
It does not! Feel free to extrapolate and headcanon as needed.

My character is a Warden, but their flood self will be total Inmate material. (Alternately: My character is an Inmate, but their floodself is from a point where they actually have their shit together.) Will their status change?
It will not! Regardless of the age or morality of characters' flood selves, Wardens will keep their Warden Items/supervisor keys/powers, Inmates won't be granted anything that they don't already have, and pairings will remain intact. Surely, no character would abuse this, right?

My character has been canon updated or has been around for prior age-swap floods. Can I have their younger self remember their previous time(s) on the Barge?
If you're choosing a timepoint at or after their previous canonpoint, yes, they can remember the Barge! However, they wouldn't have been able to return home and use knowledge of the Barge to alter canon events.

My character has been on the Barge for a long time. Can I regress them to a previous timepoint on the Barge instead of pulling them from a point in canon?
Sure!

Mini Player Plot: Chaos enters the chat

Christopher Chaos has been unleashed on the barge, and with his presence comes a healthy dose of mad science. Things are going to start changing around here, because if he sees a solution, he's going to 'fix' it.

Though because of the nature of the Barge, him being an inmate and his own struggle at times to get the finished product right, this might be a little inconvenient or strange for everyone who has to interact with the things he's fucked around with.

Rule of funny always applies, but as a few examples: if you open the washing machine to put your clothes in the dryer you might find yourself teleported into the dryer instead of your clothes.

Did you leave your cabin door unlocked? Someone might have come in and made sure that your shoes can now walk up walls with varying degrees of success and are kind of sticky and irritating as normal shoes.

Also the ice machine in the Lounge now seems to be only making ice cubes that are shaped like pigeons?

He's going to be all over, so long as it isn't readily harmful with the Admiral's usual nerfs, feel free to have your character find something weird around the ship and interact with it. Unfortunately this is a permanent affect as long as he's here, but any lasting changes that Chris isn't made to undo will be added to the setting page as we go.

Hello, yall!

It's Ian, bringing in another comic character, but this time he's from an ongoing serious gasp. How shocking! Christopher Chaos is a 16 year old mad scientist who believes that he's going to save Monsterkind from the cruelty of humanity but like, his method is a little off, and he has no idea what he's doing.

He's pretty AuDHD coded, is not the best at trusting his heart over his brain, and is prone to hypocrisy when it serves his argument. But, he's also kind of a sweet kid when you look past that, and struggles with not just being a teenager, but living with the madness that he is made of wanting to get out.

He has his permissions, Opt-in for his abilities, and an Opt-out with included heavily referenced CWs that might be difficult to avoid if you were interacting with him.

I will also be posting a little player plot notice for his entry that people might notice some changes around the barge. It's harmless(thanks Admiral, you didn't fuck it up this time) and just a fun little thing that Chris can and will be adding to the barge. You can't stop him, not even in his sleep.

Hello Barge! My name is Ashen, and I have been drawn into this game (rather fittingly) like a moth to a flame~

I've brought along Valentino, who is one of Hell's most powerful and influential Overlords from Hazbin Hotel! He's the Film Overlord, A moth demon with a pompous, perverted and sadistic attitude who preys on the poverty-stricken sinners of the Underworld. Running the entertainment district with the other two Vees, Val is used to being in control from the comfort of his porn studio or relaxing in one of Hell's many nightclubs, so being here is going to be a huge change for him!

He comes with a lot of tws and cws, so please check out opt-in / opt-out page in his journal! I'd love to play him as true to his character as I can, but I do not wish to make anyone uncomfortable either, after all, I'm just here to have fun rping!

Hello all. I'm Karin, a TLV old-timer who's back like a bad penny. I bring an addition to the Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 cast in the form of Lune, the Expedition's resident nerd and magic-user. She's joining as a warden, and is about to have a really fun time discovering just how out of sync she is with her castmates' timelines.
